Matthias Schmidl studied law at the University of Vienna and the Rijksuniversiteit Groningen in the Netherlands. He has been deputy head of the Austrian data protection authority since 2014. Previously, he worked as a research assistant at the VwGH and as an officer in the Constitutional Service of the Federal Chancellery and in the office of the Data Protection Commission.
